I use exclusively a mouse in LFS, and it is not a money issue.
If I had a choice I would race with a wheel , and I thank the devs for being able to drive with a mouse - without it I would never have bought a license.

Here are the positive and negative sides from my point of view:
Positive
Easier correction (faster virtual wheel movement)
Less strength required for steering
Easy setup
Space saver and portable solution (I only have a laptop and no desk, but on the other hand I can carry my LFS rig in a backpack)
mouse accuracy - no mechanical friction or backlash added to lag
Silence - priceless, I could not use LFS with a wheel in the evenings as it would wake up my kids, flat too small
A mouse does not look like a toy - I see no way I could convince the miss that a wheel can be used by adults. And my kids are girls and too young to be of help there...
Driving with a mouse reduces addiction (because it is no so enjoyable). Don't know if it is positive though

Negative
No FFB; on/off pedals unless you use 2 axis (I get lost traing this) or strange gimmicks
Stress on hands / joints dificult to cope with in long races (above 10-20 min)
Less accuracy for small adjustments - combined with above it becomes difficult not to oversteer.
Absolutely unnatural way to steer a car (for RL drivers at least) - requires a high abstraction capacity to get enough immersion to enjoy a race.
Learning time and progress are worse I think because of the alien control - even less ways to feel what the car is up to, so you en up correcting instead of preventing unless you spend gazillion hours practicing to extract the maximum information from vision and sound only.

If I did not have to choose between my wife and a wheel, and if I had room for it, I would be driving with a wheel for sure. For the moment I try to make the best with mouse + laptop and I can assure you I can have fun & close races as well, despite some frustration.
You can check my times on LFSW, not fast but neither ridiculously slow. Powerful RWD are quite a challenge though.

Or have you fallen into the trap of actually thinking diesel is better?

Oh oh... This could become an interesting discussion. Would you care to explain this blunt affirmation, please? I do not disagree but would like more facts behind

Now that's a nice problem to have...
My laptop can give 35-65 fps so I did not cap it, obviously. Good cpu and ram, limited gpu so full grid do not take a too heavy toll.
I assume that you would not feel any difference capping at 100 or 120fps, while relieving your system.

If you change your line a bit it does not trigger yellows, fast laps help as well

Yep.
So that you will feel somewhat special being one of the few allowed by your distinguished peers to race there. Money should not more be an issue now that you have found the way to the true sim.
In fact you should not need money at all after a while, because iRental will enlighten you to the true drivingTM and you will become a Nascar / Formula 1 champion (you still have to select road or oval racing for your career).
All credit cards accepted.

Ah. So it MUST be this Laplace whatever messing up with you. If you want my advice a good hit between his eyes with a hammer onr any other tool of the same shape and weight might do the trick.
Always pleased to help

While LFS appeals to a wide range of sim racers (dedicated league racers, casual pickup racers, drifters, cruisers, wreckers ) iRental seems to be going for high income, highly dedicated or advertisement sensitive "latest gimmick addict" racers.

I can see Irental taking a part of the higly dedicated racers from LFS but the rest of the public will likely be unaffected. This sounds bad for LFS leagues, the impact on pick up races should however be minor.

Where I see a big difference is that standard competitors in sim racing world still "allow" a racer to use different sims, while with iRental the investment and continuous fees are so high that it will force more commitment - good for them, bad for other sims, very bad for your wallet.

I can not (and do not want to) give more time / dedication to sim racing and LFS suits me for its excellent ROI and instant pickup races, so I will not suscribe to iRental in the near future, however I would love to try it

So yes, you can try and appeal to server admins to be more respectful, but at the end of the day some people are just bastards.

All working perfectly here.
My ping went down from 150-175ms to 56-71ms, safer races ahead
Thanks

Quote from morpha :Why?

My guesses:

wife / girlfriend (my case )
space (my case, laptop - no desk)
noise (my case, kids sleep when I race, and with the above no way)
money (it can take time to get by a good wheel for the youngers)
fear of addiction

did I forget something?

Runs on nearly any system, impressive replay value.
Disclaimer: No graphics - ASCII game, RPG; lots of humour and incredibly difficult
probably the best free game I ever played.

I tried a few races on race 1 yesterday.
Starting from the back of the grid, BLGP - T1 was not fast but no issue, go slowly through 2-3 cars taken out at the chicane, not bad for a grid of approx 20.
Overall good races, a few contacts due to awareness issues but nothing to end a race (apart from my own contact with a stack of tyres, that turned the car upside down :yel:
Overall very good races, more aggressive than DMR servers for example but is that necessary a bad thing? People fight harder on CTRA to be in the points, and try to win.

NAI- You are way too fast even with the XF. Add ballast

After reading this (somehow depressive, except for the beer part) thread, I come with a suggestion (unrealstic, complicated and not perfectly shaped but I'm supposed to be working just now).
Entry level servers *could* require some kind of benchmark to enter.
Would it be possible for the entry server to request a hotlap @107% WR on LFSW for a series of combos before competing?
That would force people to at least know where the track goes when they start the race, and that would ensure they have a basic knowledge of car handling to meet the benchmark...It would also mean a bit more efforts to get in, don't know if it is + or -.
Of course it would not be sufficient to ensure racecraft, but it would probably discourage or eliminate wreckers from the equation.
It may have been suggested earlier when the userbase was too scarce to request an entry test, but Race1 seems pretty much full these days (at the time of the day when I can check it).
Any comments?

Quote from aroX123 :And i found a bug on training, i have F5 as /ai, so i hit F5 while training race thing, and i can put ai, but max people on there is 12 i think

True, you can add AI on every lesson and it even crashes the game from time to time - LFS also removes extra AIs from the replays. Maybe remove this possibility?
But what is the point of adding AIs to training lessons ?

Fantastic work on replays!
On my Swiss keyboard however the >< keys are not doing anything, rewind is ; and , for small and large increments, forward not found yet.
